AMERICAN DREAM

The American Dream is the pursuit of happiness. No one is ever completely satisfied with the way their life is, but I believe that at some point that becomes exceptional to them. Having goals and wanting to achieve them, as well as, taking the necessary steps in the direction of accomplishment is a big component. Everyone wants to live comfortably and have little worries in the back of their mind. The American Dream is freedom. Freedom to come and go with out consequences and at times for some, a lack of responsibility. To be care free and not have to stress of complex and or minor situations. Someone attempting to have the “American Dream” want to be viewed necessarily powerful but want their view and opinions to be important

  1. I agree with your definition of the American Dream. How it is the pursuit of happiness. How everyone is not completely happy. they are always trying to become happy. When make goals for yourself and you set to acheive them that's a big step to achieving the American Dream. Also, freedom is very importan if your not free to make your own decisions and choices then your not living the American Dream.

  2. Happiness is a very important key to the American Dream. I will definitely have to agree that living comfortably and not having any worries would be wonderful. No one would ever be stressed out and in turn be happier.

  3. Freedom and happiness, sounds good to me. But what do we need to do to get it? I know it is easy for some because their idea of happiness is a couch, a bag of Cheetos and Seinfeld re-runs...but for those of us with high hopes, what guarantee is there for us to get the happiness WE want? The only one we have is the FREEDOM to keep trying...and that's a freedom worth dreaming about.

  4. THe pursuit for happyness wraps the american dream all up I believe. Everyone is on there pathway to find love and happyness. I do believe people would love the fact of having freedom in there life to come and go, but some do need that structure in there lives with some boundaries wouldnt you agree?

  5. I agree with the freedom from responsibility that you discussed in your blog. This is important because it relates to the novel we just read, Fear and Loathing, where Thompson, who was seeking the American dream, enjoyed a week in Vegas free from responsibility.

  6. Tiffanee, I too agree that Mister Alexie demonsrated prejudicial views as well. Even amongst other tribes, there was tension and hatred. Phrases such as "salmon fishers" and "sheep eaters were used. The fact that the tensions were taken to the point of such violence is unfortunate and is not a true representation of the way most people feel or rrespond to prejudice. It is sad that revenge is such a factor in some people's life. Innocent people are killed of harmed for an act that they weren't even involved with. We have all of these people saying it's whats inside that matters. I hope they really believe what they are saying. Actions speak louder than words! I believe as a society there should be more education to correct many of the problems of prejudice. After all, if that's all a person has been taught, how will they be able to be set free if nobody is around to show them? All men are created equal!
